I have condensation around my windows. Can it be fixed?
Condensation occurs when warm air collides with cold surfaces, also when there is too much humidity in your home. In addition to central heating, every day activities such as using a shower, drying clothes & other basic amenities can release warm moisture into the air in your home, If left untreated this can cause issues with mould, not just condensation and can be dangerous for your health, not just your home.
What causes condensation?
Condensation occurs when warm air collides with cold surfaces, or when there’s too much humidity in your home. In addition to central heating, everyday activities like cooking, showering, and drying clothes can release warm moisture into the air inside your home.
Ventilation
The main cause of condensation is a lack of adequate air ventilation in the property. Modern homes are designed to be as energy efficient as possible however, improvements like double glazing and draught excluders can seal damp air within a property. This allows condensation problems to fester creating a damp, musty, unhealthy environment.
Excess Moisture
In addition to lack of ventilation, certain unavoidable behaviour contributes to excessive moisture and condensation in the home. Common daily activities such as showering and cooking release humid air into the atmosphere which contribute to condensation. Moisture and condensation are most prominent in the winter months.
Can the property be ventilated without open windows
Yes, we can supply and install a PIV (Positive Input Ventilation) unit. This is mainly installed in the ceiling at the top of the stairs. It is cheap and quiet to run and provides ventilation through the whole home without open windows.
Can black spot mold (Aspergillus Niger) be eradicated?
The majority of black spot mold can be eradicated with improved ventilation and or heating. However, exterior drainage and poor masonry detail can also be sources of damp within a property.
I'm not sure what is causing our damp can you advise?
Yes, we have over 22 years of working with remedial work and can advise on the most suitable steps for your property.
