Is your timber or masonry deteriorating?

There are many signs your property in Cornwall has rot, including darkened timber, localised fungus growth and a damp musty smell. If left untreated, rot causes wood to lose its strength and leads to structural dangers.

REMTECH works at properties throughout Cornwall and Devon treats both wet and dry rot.

What are the signs of wet rot?

This refers to several fungal species, with the most common being Coniophora Puteana. This form is usually dark grey or black. There is also Fibroporia Vaillantii which is similar but white in colour. Meanwhile, brown rot closely matches the colour of your timber. That obviously makes it harder to spot.

Wet rot happens when your timber has been exposed to internal or external moisture. This could be due to defects in your property in Cornwall, plumbing leaks, penetrating damp or condensation.

How do I know I have dry rot?

You might see a skin-off white colour on the wood, or concentrated orange-brown spore dust. There might also be deep cracks in the timber grain, or fruiting bodies that resemble large mushrooms.

REMTECH carries out effective treatments which usually involve replacing the timber or treating it in the infected area.
